Direct selling or Network Marketing is about leadership. Almost all new people join you because you are a tiny bit more successful than they are. Nobody really joins a Direct Selling or Network Marketing product or company directly because without your leadership there would be no real opportunity for them to learn what you know. If you post in Facebook and Twitter a way that invites people to talk back to you they will. Our society is increasingly focused on efficiencies. Everything seems to be about reducing costs instead of creating wealth. Is this not backwards? Do Network Marketers and the companies they represent have a better idea? It seems that they do indeed have a better idea because they are growing rapidly even in difficult economic times.

Creating new wealth is far more important to our economy then preserving old wealth. The simple most basic reason for this is because our populations are growing.

Network marketing is increasingly being adopted by manufacturers as a simple effective way to sell their products direct to consumers in the most cost effective manner. Network Marketing is about using a smart, efficient and effective product distribution system. Even multi-national telephone companies have programs that pay their customers for referrals. Most network marketing programs have the cart a long way before the horse that is supposed to be pulling it.

Take for instance how you join a network marketing organization. Usually you get invited by a friend or an acquaintance whose primary goal is to grow their downline and make more money.

Don’t get me wrong growing downlines and earning residual income is what I do. But I am tired of being abused by so called experts from companies they have only been a part of for 3 days.

If somebody first at least tried to explain to me when their product helps, how it will help me personally and why I can also be helped by promoting it I would probably have more time for all the email I get.

Very few people it seems understand that joining a Network Marketing company is a longer term affair and that you have to have a plan to succeed. You have to have a plan on how you are going to explain he product and secondly both explain and get paid yourself.

Many people try becoming independent distributors of the various network marketing companies that are available. A lot of people fail, not because of who they joined but how they approached the business itself in the months after they joined.

If you want to know if Network Marketing is not for you? Easy? Just ask yourself a simple question:

• Are you willing to learn new skills to earn the extra money that is promised?

If you joined a curling club or an evening city wide basketball club would you be expected to learn the rules of the game before you got on the ice or the court? Of course!

There are two kinds of rules in curling, basketball or any other endeavour. The rules you think you know and the rules in the rule book. The rules you apply when you watch TV and the rules that the referee applies during the game to you.

In network marketing there is pretty much only two rules. You have to learn how to present your products and services and you have to learn how to find people to present them to.

That is it. Just two rules. Most people think it is complicated but it’s not really. Once you can explain your products and have people asking you about them you are done. You just need to do the follow up their questions and take the orders.

Ever met somebody and then promptly forgotten their name? Sure you have, we all have. But you don’t have to admit it after all this is my blog not yours. The worst is when somebody calls you up out of the blue and mumbles their name into the phone as if it was not important.

The problem with this is that it happens to everybody, but if you can find a way to minimize it will help you in your relationships, closing sales and sponsoring new people into your business.

Some common strategies are to try and associate the person’s name with some characteristic unique to that person. If the person is Betty from the accounting and has green eyes you might try to associate her with green money and make a mental note that she is “green back Betty”. If the person is your top recruiter in your business you could say to yourself here comes “Terry the top producer”. My favourite is the “flat earth {name}” for people who call me in the middle of the night not thinking that because they are awake and it is sunny I should not be in the dark and sleeping.

But what do you do if you really cannot figure out where you know somebody who just came up to you in a meeting. After all we are network marketers and we talk to a lot of people every day. Well being honest and simply telling them how they are familiar but you cannot just place where you last met them. If you are with an associate, ask them to introduce themselves first and ask the person’s name. Make sure you if you do have to eat humble pie that write it down or get a business card because it is unlikely you will ever get a second chance.

Sorting out this problem goes a long way to establishing lasting relationships. Knowing people’s names is the first step in securing their trust.

That is a very good question. Who are you working for your suppliers or yourself? Who gets paid first your suppliers or you?
